I started NG-ZORRO in 2017 to bring the Ant Design specification to Angular — not a port of the React components, but the same design language rebuilt around Angular's own idioms.
Nine years on it is still shipping. It has followed every Angular major release, it carries the full Ant Design component set, and it has more than 9,000 stars. It is also the library behind Apache Flink's dashboard, which is a fair test of a component library: an operations console under a real incident is not a place where a dropdown gets to be approximately correct.
Maintaining a design system for a framework that reinvents itself every year turned out to be the most durable engineering lesson of the project. The components are the easy part; the contract you make with everyone who upgrades is the hard one.
